Obituary

Edwin L. O’Connor, of Melville, New York, died peacefully with his wife by his side on Friday, December 4, 2020.  He was born in Port Matilda, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1925 to parents Fred and Anna (Coder) O’Connor.

Edwin graduated from Mill Hall High School.  After graduating he briefly worked for the Mill Hall Bank before enlisting in the Navy during World War II.   After the Navy he returned to Mill Hall working at Sylvania before he joined Sperry Gyroscope Company becoming a field engineer.  His many projects included assignments not only within the United States but also around the world.

While he enjoyed the opportunities Sperry and the Navy provided to him, home was always Mill Hall – returning at every opportunity to enjoy the beautiful mountains.

His greatest love was his family.  He is survived by his wife Marie (Weaver) O’Connor, of Mill Hall.  They were married 73 years and shared the same birthday, two years apart.   He is also survived by his son Larry O’Connor (Christine), daughter Lynne O’Connor (Johnny), and brother Kenneth O’Connor (Mary Ellen).  He was highly influential and loved by his grandchildren  --- Michelle (Paul) , Michael (Jessica), Jill (Jesus), Denise (Brandon), Doreen (Jeffrey), Debbie (James), Justin (Katelyn), and Brian (Jacqueline)  - and  sixteen great-grandchildren with more to come.   Additionally, he was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews.

His son, Gary O’Connor (Debra), died due to a 9/11 illness.  He is also predeceased by his  brother William O’Connor (Esther) and sister Evelyn Pankuch (John).
