Ernest L. Confer, 95, formally of Rote, passed away February 20, 2021 at Inspirations Assisted Living in Linthicum, MD.
Ernest was born on August 27, 1925, in Coalport, PA the son of the late John and Isabelle Moore Confer. On September 30, 1949, he married Janice M. Shope who preceded his death on November 23, 2013.
He served in the Navy as Fireman First Class during WWII in the South Pacific from 2/21/1944 to 5/16/1946. He served on three ships during that time and received several ribbons. The tugboat he served on went to Guadalcanal after the battle to assist in the cleanup.
Ernest was employed at Piper Aircraft from 9/1951 to 8/1984 as a laborer. Upon their closure, he worked at various small jobs until retirement. During his retirement, he enjoyed working in his woodworking shop making various crafts including veterans flag boxes.
He attended Salona United Methodist Church with his wife Janice and he had been a charter member of the Lamar Twp. Vol. Fire Co.
Ernest is survived by a daughter, Joyce Mather, of Severna Park, MD and a son John Confer, of Webster, NY. Also grandchildren Suzanne Bartley, James Mather, Matthew Confer, and Christine Confer. He has two great grandchildren, Madeline and Colin Bartley. Also, one brother/wife: Robert (Ute) Confer of Washington, and two sisters: Doris Mackey and Helen Hilligus.
Along with his parents, wife, and son Ernest Confer Jr., Ernest was preceded in death by his ten brothers: Taylor, Daniel, Lester, Glenn, James, Jerry, George, Walter, William, Richard and seven sisters : Edith Robinson, Roberta Blair, Ruth Egan, Thelma Bloom, Betty Gorham, Ella Wilson, and Goldie Corman.
A funeral service honoring the life of Ernest L. Confer will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 11:00 A. M. in the Dean K. Wetzler, Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall, PA with Rev. P. Franklin Hartzel officiating. Friends will be received in the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until time of services.
Interment, Rest Haven Memorial Park
