Obituary

Lee R. Phillips, 94. 240 N. Hampton St., Lock Haven, PA died April 7, 2020 at The Gatehouse Hospice, Williamsport,. PA. Born April 3, 1926 In Howard, PA he was the  son  of the late Cleon N and Lillian Zeigler Phillips. On  December 7, 1948 In Mill Hall he married the former Madeleine  D. Uebel who died April 6, 2004.

Lee was a 1944 graduate of the Lock Haven High School . He served in the U. S. Army  and was a T/5 having served in Co A, 787th Tank Bn. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, The  W W II Victory Medal and the  AME Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star  Lee missed his high school graduation  by 12 days but did receive his diploma.  After he received his draft notice  he decided that he wanted to choose his own branch of service . He wanted to join the Air Corps but was told they were full when he got to the Induction Center.  So Lee joined the Army and was trained for the tank corps. When his training was complete he sailed to Europe  in October 1944. When he arrived in Europe he was assigned to  the 787th Tank Bn a part of the 3rd Army headed by Gen. George Patton.  Lee and his company did mop  up duty after the Battle of The Bulge and traveled through France and Germany and in May 1945 arrived in Austria where they learned that Germany had surrendered. He was  eventually discharged on  Dec.  27, 1945.

Lee worked  at Casselbury Motor Co. and later purchased Kline and Co. an auto parts and equipment  company. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 199, F & AM, Lock Haven Williamsport Consistory, Jaffa  Shrine, the Clinton Co. Shrine Club and the  Kiwanis Club of Lock Haven  where he was the  long time chairman of the Inter Club Committee.  He was a member of  the West Branch Hunting Club where he had served as resident, , the Williamsport Racqet  Club and a long time  board member of the Clinton Co. United Way.  Lee enjoyed hunting, tennis and walking.

Lee is survived by   4 nieces,

 Margaret Ann Royer Matter, Dana Lee Phillips Yocum, Patricia Phillips Jackson and Karen Muther Masi

                                  3 nephews: John D. Phillips, Wayne Muthler and Larry Muthler

                                  1 Brother-in Law: James Muthler

***Predeceased by:  2 Sisters: Arlena Brickley and Violet Muthler

                                       2 Brothers: Gershon  Royer and Max Z. Phillips

                                       1 Nephew : John Royer

At Lee’s request there will  be no services

 

Lee’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 2nd floor, UPMC Lock Haven Hospital for their and care and compassion of Lee and to the Gatehouse Hospice at Divine Hospital for their comfort and support.
