Melvin L. Fetzer, “Mel”, 80 of Mill Hall, went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 24, 2022. He was born on February 16, 1942, a son of the late Dean A. and Cora (Roan) Fetzer.
As a child and teenager, Mel was instrumental in helping to run the family farm with his father and brothers. He was a 1961 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School where he assisted on the stage crew and senior play staff. Mel was described as “always a gentleman”. He received his Associate Degree from The Pennsylvania State University in 1963 in Farm Equipment Services and Sales.
Mel was employed at Piper Aircraft Corporation for 17 years as an aircraft assembler and was a supervisor of maintenance at Centre Community Hospital for 25 years until his retirement.
Mel was a longtime member of the Mill Hall United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and assisted with many handyman projects in the church. He was a loyal BEN band parent, avid hunter and enjoyed traveling and camping in his RV with family and friends. Mel had a talent for restoring vehicles and creating wood art projects.
He was most proud of his family. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and loved spending as much time with them as possible. They were his pride and joy.
Mel is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan (Bottorf ) Fetzer; daughter, Sherry (Shawn) McGraw, Zion and grandchildren; Matthew (Kristin) McGraw, Zion and Alyssa McGraw, Williamsport; three brothers, Dean (Connie) Fetzer of Titusville, FL, Richard (Joanne) Fetzer of Chuckey, TN and Mahlon “Buck” (Joyce) Fetzer of Port Matilda; lifetime friend, Donald (Bev) Spackman, Port Matilda, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Mel was preceded in death by his brother, Donald “Fetz” Fetzer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Mill Hall United Methodist Church, 212 South Water Street, Mill Hall with Pastor Rick Conklin officiating. Friends will be received at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary, with a Celebration of Life Ceremony to follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mill Hall United Methodist Church, 212 South Water Street, Mill Hall, PA 17751.
