Robert “Butch” Jr Aungst, of Mill Hall, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by loved ones including his beloved wife of 54 years Darla Aungst.
Born on Jan. 5, 1948 in Lock Haven, Butch was the youngest of 5 children to the late Sherman and Lillian Aungst.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman “Skeeter” Aungst and Maynard Aungst as well as a sister Patricia Morgan. He is survived by one sister, Delores Heverly of Beech Creek, Pa.
Butch was the definition of a family man, a true patriarch and together he and Darla had 4 children: daughter Bobbi Aungst of Mill Hall, son Richard Aungst (Mary Beth Day) of Bellefonte, son Robert Aungst of Mill Hall and daughter Patty Ann Dietz (Rob Dietz) of Lock Haven. They have 10 grandchildren, Jessica Barner, Robert Lewis Aungst, Kayla Weaver (Hunter Weaver), Robert Aungst II (Zoey Aungst), Kelsy Stacey (Scottie Stacey), Bailey Aungst (Robert Schuller), Kylie Dietz, Braelinn Aungst and Cannon Aungst. They also have 11 great-grandchildren, Hailey Mikitko, Brody Aungst, Beckham Weaver, Harley Friel, Trenton Stacey, Kamerson Weaver, Amelia Aungst, Emma Schuller, Leela Aungst, Krew Stacey and Brier Stacey.
Butch is also preceded in death by his two best friends, John Kustaborder and Richard Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
He was proud of many things in his life. His work ethic and strong desire to take care of his family led him to many different business opportunities including owning a wholesale evergreen business, a floral shop and most recently Aungst Family Restaurant in Mill Hall before retiring in 2015.
Adored by many, Butch loved telling anyone he could his favorite lifetime stories including his childhood memories from growing up in the 1st ward of Lock Haven, Pa.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects can do so at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 18 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. at the funeral home and a procession will take him to his final resting spot at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Woolrich, Pa.
